Just buy a key or two for the area want to explore in when you decide to explore. They are not reusable.

They are for treasure chests in that area. If you dont have one you cant open the chest.
More than one party memeber can open a chest if they have a key and the drops will be specifically for them from what i understand. |

I got a sword from one of those chests tonight in Thunderhead Keep. Can't use it, sadly. It's a gold, of course -- anyone care to give me a [reasonable]price check?
Crippling Flamberge of Shelter 15-22 (req. 13 Swords) Lengthens Crippled Armour +6 (vs. phys) Gotta say.. if those keys tend to drop nicely, I'm going to be a fan of this new system |

Yes, prices are unstable currently, as drop rates were changed(especially with the chests), the unique green items were introduced with very nice statistics, etc. Since rarity is hard to determine right now, it's rather difficult to say what a particular item is worth currently.

By ruining the existing economy, Anet essentially kicked THE MAN in the sack. Now so many ordinary Joes who would love to do the same thing to their credit card company or mortgage lender are unhappy... because they were THE MAN online.
I love it |

I was in gates of kryta and the vendor was selling a kryta key for 200g.
Which makes me wonder .... how many different area keys are there? Because, as with the collectable items you will have to reserve some space in your storage to keep them. So how many slots? This brings up another item .. storage space .. or maybe keyrings. A special pack/pouch to carry keys Shaquira |

There are keys for each area. These are the ones I know.
Ascalon - 50g Kryta - 200 g Desert - 450g So i would say that each area has it's own key, and the farther away from Ascalon (or maybe difficulty) the more it will cost. They also drop which is free. |

Their is also an absidian key worth about 1.2k. I am guessing that the more expensive keys get you better rewards.

Exactly!
To see what's up with these keys - I bought 2 Kryta keys = 400gp. I then went to my favorite Kryta farming spot. It used to have, in order (along with mosters): chest (items) - barrel (items) - chest (gold) - chest (gold). Now just 2 chests and very-very random in placement. I used 2 keys and got 2 purple items, not max dmg so must be expert salvaged: Staff wrapping of Fortitude +21 and Sundering Axe Haft 10/6. Combined worth 98 gp at Merchant (not the upgrades, those for just 50gp combined, but the axe and staff before salvage was worth 98gp combined). I sold each one for 300gp, making a profit of 200gp. Now, many people can buy a key and get that upgrade for themselves, but many like to just buy - quicker and easier AND they may take a long time in finding what they want. What is the point I'm getting at: no way could I have "WTS" those items for more than 300-400gp. I made a profit and kept the price affordable for people not able to find what they want or need. Maybe this will curb that absolute ridiculous "WTS" notices I see in Ascalon and Lion's Arch - "WTS max dmg gold zealous longbow of fortitude, +14%^50, +24 health, C/O=50k, B/O=100k" not even worth it - not max ^50, not max Fortitude, and zealous string on a slow longbow? doesn't work. This seller was a ripoff artist and everyone like him/her. "WTS Bowgrip of defense +5" - "What is your asking price?" - "15k". THAT is hopefully a thing of the past. At first I hated the whole 'key' thing. But I had always wanted to fill my coffers with Godly items, go to Lion's Arch (where the prices are WAAAAY inflated), wait for someone to spam: "WTS max dmg gold zealous longbow of fortitude, +14%^50, +24 health, C/O=50k, B/O=100k", look in my backpack for that same one and spam back: "WTS max dmg gold zealous longbow of fortitude, +14%^50, +24 health (asking 1k) best price ever-item is real". That would be awesome! Just sell sell sell sell at affordable, 'gut your over-inflated' prices. My 2 cents - thanks for reading. |
